2024 CFDE Nutcracker Auditions

Our Center for Dance Education will hold auditions for children's roles in The Nutcracker on Saturday, August 24. The auditions will be held at our studios at the Chapman Cultural Center at 200 East St. John Street, Spartanburg, SC 29306. Please arrive at least 30 minutes before your audition time with all required audition materials. 
 
 
Audition Times: 
* All dancers must bring a printed full-body photo of themselves standing in "first position". Female students wear class leotard, tights, and ballet slippers. No skirts. Hair in a bun. If 14 years or older, please bring pointe shoes. Male students wear black tights or shorts, a white or black t-shirt, and ballet slippers. 
 
  • 9:00 - 10:00 am | 8 - 10 years old 
  • 10:00 - 11:00 am | 11 - 13 years old 
  • 11:00 - 12:00 pm | 14 years and older 
Important Audition Information:
  • Auditions will be on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at our studios located in the Montgomery Building at the Chapman Cultural Center
  • Auditionees must be at least 8 years of age as of November 1, 2024
  • Auditionees must be enrolled in at least one ballet class at our Center for Dance Education 
  • Auditionees and their parents/guardians will be expected to follow our Nutcracker policies and handbook
  • Parents/Guardians of auditionees will be required to volunteer during our production and performance weeks
  • Auditionees must be able to attend rehearsals on Tuesdays, Fridays, or Saturdays depending on their assigned role beginning in Late-October
  • Auditionees are required to attend all production rehearsals at the studio and theater 
  • Tech and Performance Week is Saturday, December 7 - Sunday, December 15. An additional rehearsal will be held on Tuesday, November 26
  • Performances are as follows:
    • Sensory Sensitive Performance: December 13 at 10:00 am (ACT I ONLY)
    • Public Performance: December 13 at 7:00 pm 
    • Public Performance: December 14 at 3:00 pm & 7:00 pm 
    • Public Performance: December 15 at 3:00 pm 
  • Casting is at the sole discretion of our Artistic Leadership Staff. Every part is important and an integral part of our professional performance. Casting requests will not be tolerated.
  • Participation in The Nutcracker requires a serious commitment, and Ballet Spartanburg's Artistic Leadership Staff understands that not all students who participate in ballet lessons at our Center for Dance Education can make this level of commitment. Participation in The Nutcracker is a privilege and an opportunity for students to experience a professional production alongside Ballet Spartanburg's Professional Company.

Carlos Agudelo, 2023 SC Governor's Award for an Individual

Ballet Spartanburg's Artistic Director, Carlos Agudelo, was awarded the South Carolina Governor's Award from the South Carolina Arts Commission on May 23, 2023, at the Chapman Cultural Center. The award was presented by Mr. David Platt, Executive Director of the South Carolina Arts Commission. "We recognize the unparalleled energy, enthusiasm, devotion and love for dance that Carlos has gifted to our community out of his passion for all to experience the arts for the past 32 years. We are overjoyed that Carlos has been recognized by the South Carolina Arts Commission, " Teresa S. Berline, Executive Director. "The South Carolina Arts Commission is an extraordinary organization in our state which promotes and advocates opportunities in the arts which values equality, access, diversity and inclusion. Ballet Spartanburg is honored by the support of the South Carolina Arts Commission and the recognition of Carlos Agudelo."
