November 1st is the first day of The Day of Dead two-day celebration. Join Ballet Spartanburg and Fr8yard for a new spirited event in Downtown Spartanburg. Costumes, dancing, and more! 
 
HOW DO I DANCE? WHAT DO I DO? I HAVE TO BE A PART OF THIS! THIS IS WAY TOO COOL!
 
  • You will dance to Michael Jackson's, "Thriller" on Main Street in front of the Fr8Yard with a crowd of Thriller dancers!
  • The street will be blocked from 4-8PM for all dancers and those who want to watch.
  • Registration is below.  As soon as you register, (YOU  must include your email) we will send you the video that you will practice to at home.
  • We will meet two times at Ballet Spartanburg studios to dance as a group so be prepared.  Practice the "Thriller" dance with your family. We chose an easy video for all to learn. Our community dance times in the studio are October 5 and 26th at 10AM. Ballet Spartanburg studios. 
  • You will receive a goody bag when you check in at the Smith's Drugs Parking Lot off of East Main Street.
  • We will gather in the Smith's Drugs parking lot to begin the Zombie Walk to the Fr8Yard. Sign in is at 5:30PM. Parking is available in the parking garage on Dunbar street.
  • Dancers will then Zombie Walk to music to the front of Fr8Yard to perform. The performance will be  videoed and will be shown LIVE on their Jumbo TV!
  • We will perform two times: 6:15PM and 6:45PM.
  • Afterwards, families may join the Fr8Yard for FREE if they have on a GLOW Bracelet which shows you are a Thriller performer.
  • This fun evening supports our Project D.A.N.C.E. Please see the video below to learn about Project Dance.
  • This is our first Thriller Dance for the community. Come on out, dress up as the coolest Zombie, Day of the Dead or your Halloween costumes.

Carlos Agudelo, 2023 SC Governor's Award for an Individual

Ballet Spartanburg's Artistic Director, Carlos Agudelo, was awarded the South Carolina Governor's Award from the South Carolina Arts Commission on May 23, 2023, at the Chapman Cultural Center. The award was presented by Mr. David Platt, Executive Director of the South Carolina Arts Commission. "We recognize the unparalleled energy, enthusiasm, devotion and love for dance that Carlos has gifted to our community out of his passion for all to experience the arts for the past 32 years. We are overjoyed that Carlos has been recognized by the South Carolina Arts Commission, " Teresa S. Berline, Executive Director. "The South Carolina Arts Commission is an extraordinary organization in our state which promotes and advocates opportunities in the arts which values equality, access, diversity and inclusion. Ballet Spartanburg is honored by the support of the South Carolina Arts Commission and the recognition of Carlos Agudelo."
